SCHOHARIE – Cora Lee (Worthington) Forslund, 80, passed away suddenly on September 16, 2025 while traveling with a close friend in Kentucky. Born in Glens Falls, NY on January 11, 1945, she was the daughter of Ruth (Wakely) and Robert Worthington. Cora was raised by her late Aunt Ethel (Wakely) and Richard Fletcher at Wakely Lodge in Indian Lake. She graduated from Indian Lake Central School in 1962.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Oswego which led to the start of her teaching career in Oriskany, NY. Cora Lee married her soulmate, George Stanton Forslund, in 1967 and together they raised two sons. In 1988, she began teaching at Duanesburg Elementary School until her retirement in 2011. During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. She loved reading and bird watching. Hummingbirds were always her favorite. She had a lifelong passion for sewing, knitting and quilting. Her pieces have been shared with family and friends, with a vast majority donated to various organizations. There are many warm hands thanks to Cora Lee. She has donated well over a thousand mittens that she selflessly knit throughout recent years.
Cora leaves behind her two sons, Jay (Karen) and Glen (Jamie Martin) Forslund. She is survived by her grandchildren Amanda, Justin, Kayleigh and Lauren, along with her great grandchildren Greyson Kehs and Collete Dake. Her siblings Peggy Rising, Ruby (James) Pigliavento, Pamela (Rick) Crippen and Robert (Sandra) Worthington Jr. as well as many nieces and nephews also survive her. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her siblings Sylvia Berghela and Basil Worthington.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Cora’s life on Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 12-3pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home located at 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam, NY. Cora Lee will be laid to rest at the Cedar River Cemetery in Indian Lake, NY on October 12, 2025 at 1:00pm.
