Concetta Miele passed away peacefully at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center on Thursday, February 16, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Syracuse, NY on March 18, 1926, Connie was the daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine (Cioffi) Iozzia. Connie worked as a Keypunch Operator for New York State and the W.T. Grant Co. She devoted most of her life to raising her two children and being a homemaker. Connie enjoyed board games, crossword puzzles and reading, but her favorite activity was playing Scrabble with family and friends. Although she may have cheated at times by using the dictionary, we were willing to overlook it. She also enjoyed playing hymns on the piano. Her and her husband Frank enjoyed dining out, especially at the Blue Ribbon Diner and the Bellevue Café. For years family and friends gathered at Connie and Frank’s home for Christmas Eve Dinner. Connie attended Calvary Tabernacle Church in Schenectady with many of her lifelong friends. She was known for her generosity, often giving many in need a “Pentecostal handshake” as she liked to call it. Connie is survived by her children, Becky Brooks (Chuck) and Michael Miele (Peggy), grandchildren; Randy Brooks (Kristen), Dr. Jennifer Smitkin (Greg) and Hannah Miele, great grandsons; Connor Jay Brooks and Brody Scott Smitkin, her brothers; Don “Guy” Iozzia (Helen), Sam “Sal” Iozzia (Laura), Tony Iozzia (Rose) and her sister; Ruth Pucino (Peter). Connie was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Frank Miele. Our family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway B-wing for their love and kindness shown to Connie. Although there are too many to name, we want you all to know that we appreciated the quality of care that you gave her. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Family and friends may gather for funeral services on Tuesday morning, 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
