Colleen M. Horwedel

April 3, 1962 — December 9, 2025

Port St. Lucie

Colleen M. Horwedel, 63, of Port St. Lucie Florida, passed away on Tuesday December 9, 2025 after a brief illness, surrounded by her family and undoubtedly on a sunny day if she had anything to say about it.

Formerly of Schenectady, she was born on April 3, 1962 and graduated from Niskayuna High School in 1980. She went on to live a life full of love, laughter and more stray animals than anyone could count. She had a soft spot for every cat that crossed her path and welcomed anyone in need through her door, usually with a warm meal ready to go. She never turned down a chance to socialize or simply enjoy time with people she loved.

Colleen eventually followed her love of warm weather to Florida, finding comfort in the endless sunshine and the simple joy of having a beach close by. Still, she frequently traveled back to New York to spend time with her five children, Jamie Powers (Don), Nick Stangle, and her triplet boys Christopher (Ashlyn), Jesse (Caitlyn) and Mark Horwedel (Tiffany). Between her five children, she enjoyed each one of her 18 grandchildren ranging from 1 year to 23 years old. She would never allow her story to be told without including each name of those that brought her the most joy- Tarryn, Carter, Logan, Mason, Dexter, Salem, Nicholas, Hailey, Lexus, Jack, Tara, Calan, Chloe, Wyatt, Jayden, Caelie, Greyson and Stephen.

Whether camping in a tent, or cooking for a crowd, Colleen created comfort and fun wherever she went. Her family will forever cherish her easy laugh, generous heart and ability to make those around her feel at home.

She is survived by her long-time partner, Mike Brumme and stepfather Ken Stevenson. Her siblings Michael Wos (Vicki), Butch Ziobrowski, Ken Ziobrowski (Kathie), Dan Wos (Sue), Shirley Wickman (Jeff) and Helen Wos, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Gail Stevenson and Walter Wos, as well as her brother Butch’s late wife, Cindy. Her legacy is written in every meal she cooked and every animal she rescued. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were lucky to know her. Her family kindly requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local animal shelter.

Colleen has been privately cremated. Memorial calling hours will be held on Wednesday December 17th from 4 to 6pm at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. Condolences can be posted at demarcostonefuneralhome.com.
