Colonel Richard H. Davis, 88, of Guilderland passed away suddenly on February 11, 2018. He was born August, 20, 1929 in Utica, NY and grew up in Madison, NY. He was a graduate of Madison Central School. Richard enlisted in the United States Army on August 13, 1951. He rose rapidly through the ranks to Colonel, serving with distinction. His widely varied military assignments sent him to over 23 military instillations in 13 states during his 34 year distinguished career. His career included service in the Infantry, Signal Corp, Special Forces, Civil Affairs, and Military Police in command and staff positions within the 414th Civil Affairs Battalion, 359th Signal Brigade, and culminated with his position as the Deputy Commander of the 7th Signal Command. His military education included a wide variety of professional schools culminating in graduation with high honors from the U.S. Army's Command and General Staff College, the Armed Forces Staff College, and the U.S. Air Force War College. His distinguished service was recognized by the award of the Legion of Merit, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, The Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, and the American Campaign Medal. He retired September 19, 1984. Richard was an avid NBA, NFL, and NASCAR fan, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his wonderful family and grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 57 years, Nancy A. Davis, his beloved daughters; Susan Davis of Guilderland, NY, Mary Nucci (Greg) of Trumbull, CT, and Martha Kent (Brian) of Guilderland, NY, and his grandchildren; Timothy Harris, Emily Kent, Christopher and Anna Nucci. He was predeceased by both his parents; Fred and Mae Davis, sons Richard Davis and Kevin Davis, his brothers; Lawrence, Ralph, Fred, and Bernard, and his sisters; Ethelyn Pray, and Doris Shattuck. Calling hours, at his request, will be private. Friends and family are welcome to attend a graveside service, with full military honors, at 2pm on Friday at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to the American Heart Association at heart.org, or to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
