Charlton - Christopher John Sawicki unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 26, 2022. He is remembered by his family and friends as a man of great strength, wisdom, and faithfulness. All who knew him can testify to his gift of humor and wit, and his ability to make one laugh at the simplest things (including one’s self.) Chris was born on July 10, 1956 to Zygfryd and Marguerite Sawicki in Schenectady, NY. Chris was the 7th of 10 children. Chris graduated from Scotia Glenville High School in 1974. After working as a chef at the Hallmark Nursing Home in Schenectady he began his career in the Bakery Department of Price Chopper Supermarkets in 1978. There, he continued to work for 43 years in various bakery positions. He was renowned for his creativity, artistry, and mastery of the business. The Executive Vice President of his division described Chris as the “mastermind” for several bakery initiatives and a ‘legacy of leadership to those who worked with and for him.’ Chris married Kimberly (Dlugosz Emhart) in 1986. Together they raised six children. Chris was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was revered by his wife and children as a man of honor, dignity, and sacrifice. He is fondly remembered for his insistence on annual family vacations, and for the time he spent playing baseball, basketball, cards, and board games with his family. His humor kept us all laughing with his unconventional wit and, the now infamous, “Thanksgiving Day Rules” and “The Family Jeopardy Game” both authored by Chris. Chris served as both deacon (1988-1999) and elder (1999-present) at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam, NY. He served as church treasurer for many years and chaired multiple committees. Chris was known as a tireless servant, always helping any in need. From fixing faucets to delivering meals to the hungry, Chris was always present to help. He was eager to share the good news of Jesus Christ to anyone who would listen. Chris’s favorite hobbies included boating and fishing, learning world and church history, and fixing anything that was broken. Chris is predeceased by his father Zygfryd Sawicki (1993) and mother Marguerite (LaMothe) Sawicki (2017.) He is survived by his wife Kimberly; by his children Christopher James Sawicki (Jennifer), Veronica Gillman (Daniel), Anne Sawicki, Laura Kulbako (Matthew), Cassandra Norton (Joshua), and Don Overbaugh; by his grandchildren James Sawicki, Jeremy Sawicki, Tristan Zito, Ainsley Sawicki, Landon Sawicki, Maverick Walsh, Justin Kulbako, Natalia Kulbako, Alexys Garbo, and Gabriel Garbo; by his siblings Richard Szurek, Marguerite Diane Sawicki, Rosanne Magagnos, Gwen Cole (John), Mary Zeglen (Joseph), Michael Sawicki (Linda), John Sawicki (Debra), Tim Sawicki, and Annette Stone (Jim); and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 2nd from 3-5pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9 Trinity Place, Amsterdam. Funeral services will begin at 5pm. Chris will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill in the springtime.
