ROTTERDAM- Christina Urys of Rotterdam passed on December 7, 2025 following a long and fulfilling life of 105 years. Christina (Chris) was born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 18, 1920, daughter of Elizabeth (Bessie) and John Angus. She immigrated to the US in 1923 and remained proud of her Scottish heritage.
Chris attended Draper High School and worked for General Electric Company during WWII. She married Raymond (Ray) Urys in 1941. They raised two daughters, Christine and Nancy and were married for 46 years prior to Ray's death in 1988. Bessie Angus lived with Chris' family until her death in 1976. Chris lived with Nancy and son-in-law Gregory Miranda in Guilderland from 2001-2021. Following a broken hip, she moved to live with Christine in Abingdon, VA until her move to Kingsway Assisted Living in 2022.
Socializing with family and friends was important to Chris. She and Ray hosred many parties in their basement. She loved music and dancing. Following Ray's death, she continued to enjoy dancing with special partners who became her companions. In these circles, she was known as "The Dancing Queen."
Chris was a life-time member of the Rotterdam United Methodist Church (Fisher Church) and served on various committees. Her church and it's members were a very meaningful part of her life. In addition, she was a member of Home Demonstration Club, Lore member of Rotterdam Elks, Rotterdam Senior Center, The German Club of Albany, Sunnyview Volunteers and also participated with Ray in the Shriners Organization.
Chris and Ray visited her homeland of Scotland in 1981. The saw ancestors' graves, places her mother and father had lived and visited with cousins who lived there. Travel became a more common activity for Chris following Ray's death. She enjoyed many trips to visit family in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio and Wisconsin. She traveled to Florida, Bermuda, Hawaii, Canada, Alaska and Mexico. Her highlight trip was "From Sea to Shining Sea" across the US in 2001 with her good friend Jean Bolton.
She is survived by daughters Christine Earles of Abingdon, VA and Nancy Miranda (Greg) of Guilderland, NY; four grandchildren Christina Earles Haws (Richard), Raymond Earles (Angie), Jason Miranda (Betty) and Brian Miranda; six great-grandchildren Abigail Earles Timp (Joseph), Ethan Earles (Jackie), Camden Miranda, Owen Miranda, Phoebe Miranda and Luna Miranda. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Chris was predeceased by her siblings Elizabeth (Betty) Fisher, William (Bill) Angus and Johnnie Angus.
A memorial service will be held Thursday December 18, 2025 at 10 am in the Rotterdam United Methodist Church 1915 Helderberg Ave. Schenectady. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to Homeward Bound Dog Rescue of New York P.O. Box 5782 Albany, NY 12205 or Rotterdam United Methodist Church.
