Charles Rost

October 20, 1956 — August 31, 2024

Charles “Chuck” Rost Jr., 67, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at his home in Rotterdam, NY.

He was born on October 20, 1956 to the late Charles Rost Sr. and Marilyn Osterhoudt Rost of Schenectady. Chuck graduated from Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY, class of 1974. He really looked forward to his class reunions here when they came up. He then worked as a photographer and in sales for a number of years. Most recently he was working at O’Reily’s Auto Parts in Rotterdam, NY. He was united in marriage to Miss Pamela Filkins on March 9, 1985.

Chuck’s life revolved around his family. First, it was his daughter Micchelle, whom he coached (in Mickey Mouse socks every tournament) to many local, state, national, and even international titles in TaeKwonDo. She went on to earn her 4th degree black belt and he even earned his 1st dan based on the time he put into the art and the knowledge he had ascertained as a dedicated parent and coach. As time passed and Chuck became a grandfather, his focus became his grandchildren. He was their #1 fan. Whether it was telling Cheyenne to choke up on her bat at a softball game or watch her on the basketball court, watching Damien make tackles on the football field or check someone in lacrosse, or taking Elijah and Peyton to one of their practices, “Pa” was always there to help. They were his pride and joy. Most recently he was most proud of the fact that he had helped Peyton swim without a puddle jumper. It is certain that “Donut Day” on Thursday mornings before putting the kids on the bus to school, going to Grandma and Pa’s house for swimming and burgers on the grill in the summer, and the bowls of Mint Cookie Crumble ice cream from Stewart’s will surely be missed.

Chuck did have some personal hobbies, however some could say his job was like his hobby. He enjoyed dealing personally with people and retail sales always seemed to call him. He also enjoyed cool, crisp Autumn mornings in the woods hunting with his daughter. He was with her when she got her first buck.  He was also an avid country music lover and listener of classic rock. He referred to himself as a “country boy hippie” as he kept his hair long. Chuck loved motorcycles and owned a few during his time. Recently he was on the lookout for another one as it had been some years since he had ridden, and it seemed the whisper of the open road was reaching out to him again. Christmas was his favorite holiday with all its magic, and he was one of few people who did not cringe in Upstate New York when snow was in the forecast. He used to plow the snow and he always made a giant snow mountain for his daughter to ride down with her orange toboggan when she was young. Chuck also enjoyed family vacations, especially to Disney World to see “The Mouse” frequently and was looking forward to returning after a five- ish year hiatus this November.

He is survived by his loving wife Pamela Rost, daughter Micchelle (Michael) Jackson, sister Kathy (Keith) House, and grandchildren Cheyenne, Damien, Elijah, and Peyton Jackson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Marilyn.
