Rotterdam – Charles M. Carroll Sr., 96, passed away at Ellis Hospital on Thursday, September 9th, 2021. Charles was born in Marietta, PA in 1924 and was the son of the late Joseph E. Carroll and Agnes Kearney Carroll. After graduation from Marietta High School, Charles enlisted in the US Army Air Force. He honorably served his country in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Upon his discharge, he went on to graduate from Millersville State Teachers College of Pennsylvania. After teaching for 13 years in Pennsylvania, Charles took a position at Mohonasen High School. As an Industrial Arts teacher for 21 years, he loved sharing his skills and talents. He was a member of Rotterdam United Methodist Church since 1965. Charles taught men’s bible study, served as Sunday school superintendent and sang in the choir.Charles shared his love of music, especially jazz and classical, with his family. As a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge, he enjoyed dancing and socializing. He also took delight in traveling throughout the US for family celebrations. Charles leaves behind his children, Theresa Traenkle, Charles Carroll Jr. (Beverly), Diane O’Connell and Thomas Carroll, 10 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and his companion and friend, Christine Urys. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, his daughter, Nancy Carrigan, his first and second beloved wives, Helen Doyle Carroll and Rhoda Zeigler Carroll, his companion of 20 years, Helen Marshall and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Carroll. A memorial service will be on Saturday, September 25th at 10:30am at Rotterdam United Methodist Church, 1915 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Masks are required while inside the church. Charles will be laid to rest with military honors at Schenectady Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Charles’ name may be made to your favorite charity.
