Schenectady - Celeste “Shelly” Pugliano, 88,passed away peacefully on December 28, 2021 surrounded by her family. Born in Schenectady on August 12th, 1933 Celeste was the second daughter to Sinibaldo and Assunta (Pugliese) Miceli, she attended Mt. Pleasant High School and graduated with honors. Celeste was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church where she was graced with a strong faith and love of her Lord. Celeste worked as a Secretary at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and later as an Insurance Coordinator for Mohonasen Central School District. Celeste loved cooking, baking, gardening and watching hallmark movies. She was a card shark and always up for a game of cards with her family. Celeste is well known for her infamous meatballs and yummy homemade pizzelles. She was the neighborhood "Grandma". She loved hosting family and friends and always welcomed new friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Joseph Pugliano, Sr. and her eldest son Joseph Pugliano, Jr., her parents Sinibaldo & Assunta (Pugliese) Miceli, her eldest sister and brother-in-law Isabella and Michael Della Villa, and her younger sister and brother-in-law Antoinette and Ralph Volpicelli. She is survived by her children Michael (Sandra Arneault) Pugliano of Cohoes, and Susan Baker (Pugliano) of Rotterdam; her grandchildren Serena (Nathan) Roginsky of Harrison, Tennessee and Christina (Jeremy) VanKeuren of Scotia; her nephew Patrick (Diana) Volpicelli of Rotterdam and niece Nancy Volpicelli of Halfmoon. She is also survived by her honorary granddaughter Sarah Prescott of Cobleskill and special friends and caretakers Rita Prescott and Linda Palmiotto as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff on the A6 wing and Emergency Department at Ellis Hospital. Celeste will be laid to rest at St. Cyril’s Cemetery in Rotterdam. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 11th from 9 - 10:30 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. followed at 11 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will be at St's Cyril & Method Cemetery.
