Catherine M. St. John, 94, of Marlborough, MA, formerly of Schenectady, NY, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2015 at the Countryside Nursing Home, Framingham, MA.She was the devoted wife of Alfred St. John, Jr. who died in September 2014. She is survived by her children Alyson Wood and her husband Robert of Marlborough, Adele Pigliavento and her husbandEdward of Schenectady, and Alfred St. John III and his partner Sara Williams of New Hampshire.She was the loving grandmother of David Wood and his wife Jessica, James Wood, Gregory Wood, Edward Pigliavento III, Andrea Pigliavento, and Ashley Pigliavento and the great grandmother of Matthew and Ryan Wood. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Born in Schenectady on March 4, 1921 , Catherine was the daughter of the late David and Isabelle (Murray)Nolan. She was the sister of the late Mary (Marie) Harrison.After graduation from Nott Terrace High School she began working at General Electric where she met her husband Al.They were married in November 1944, and Catherine began her new life as an US Army wife. Until Al's retirement from the army in 1965, Catherine lived in New Hampshire, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Germany, New Mexico, Nebraska, and Japan.The family returned to Schenectady in July 1965. After Al's retirement from the State University of New York in 1985, Catherine enjoyed the many trips they were able to take around the United States and the Caribbean.She enjoyed reading, movies, family events, and shopping for her grandchildren.Catherine never turned down an invitation to a celebration or chance to travel. The family would like to express their tremendous gratitude to everyone at Countryside Nursing Home for the compassion and loving care given to Catherine in the last few years of her life. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday March 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Schenectady.A funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, March 27 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Church, 3040 Hamburg St.Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Troy Rd. Schenectady.
