Caterina Calandra

Rotterdam - Caterina Calandra, 90, of Schenectady died on Sunday October 27, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 13, 1934 to Biagio and Giuseppina Insogna in Melizzano, Italy. While in Italy she met and married her husband Michele Calandra and came to America in 1963. Once in the United States she settled with family in Gloversville, New York and then in Schenectady where she spent her time as a seamstress before and after her career working at General Electric as a machinist until she retired. She and her husband Michele then enjoyed over 20 years in sunny Port Richey, Florida until recently returning to Schenectady to be with family again. Caterina loved her family, friends, gardening and putting smiles on people’s faces as they enjoyed her delicious cooking.

Caterina was predeceased by her husband of 68 years Michele. Parents Biagio and Giuseppina. Brothers Raffaele and Nicola Insogna and sister Giovanna Giamatti.

Caterina leaves behind her children Giovanni (Rebecca) Calandra and Joseph (Elizabeth) Calandra. Her sisters Mafalda (Gilberto) Casadei and Philomena Zanolin in Italy. Her granddaughter Tori and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Schenectady, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St, Schenectady, NY. Private entombment will follow at St's Cyril & Method Cemetery.
