Caterina Ando, 89, formerly of Schenectady, passed peacefully at home in Florida on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Oliveri, Messina, Sicily, Caterina was the daughter of the late Francesco and Michela Pino. Caterina emigrated to the United States in 1966 and was employed as a seamstress for many years at a local bridal shop in Schenectady. She enjoyed hosting family and friends in her home, and welcomed all who came to visit with love, something delicious to eat, and a listening ear. She always had a warm smile on her face and enjoyed being with her family, friends, and loved ones. Caterina loved to be outside, taking her daily walks, swimming, and working in her gardens in which she took great pride and joy. Her talents also included embroidering, knitting, and designing clothes. She loved making clothes for her grandchildren, and was always willing and ready to alter any clothes that her family and friends brought to her. It gave her great joy to be able to share her talents with her loved ones. In the kitchen her skills were unmatched, everything she made was to perfection and seasoned with lots of love, her secret ingredient! Her whole life was dedicated to loving and serving her family. Caterina was a longtime faithful member of St.Anthony’s Church. In addition to her parents, Caterina was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Bruno, who died in 2018, her sisters, Maria Genovese and Sarina Cannavo and her brother, Antonino Pino. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Frank (Cristina) Ando of Rotonda West, FL and Mark (Ann) Ando of Schenectady, her brother, Santo (Gloria) Pino of Osprey, FL, sister-in-law, Joan Pino and brother-in-law, Benny Cannavo, six grandchildren, Daniela Ando, Marco (Milissa) Ando, Gabriella Ando, Michela Ando, Chris (Michelle) Evans and Lisa LaFond, one great grandson, Gabriel Evans, and several loving nieces and nephews. A calling period will be held on Wednesday from 9:30am to 10am at Open Arms Church, 2714 Curry Rd. in Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin at 10 am at the church. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Glenville.
