Caroline Fitzgerald

GUILDERLAND - Caroline Fitzgerald passed away unexpectedly at home on November 4, 2023, she was 78. Caroline was born on January 7, 1945, in Valley Falls, NY, to the late Frances and Mitchell Caswell. Caroline loved convertibles and drove many in her lifetime. You could admire her car, but you couldn’t touch it. One day in her youth, and in her boyfriend’s Corvette she found herself stopped at a red light next to the “First Lady of Drag Racing” Cha Cha Muldowney. Seeing an opportunity to show Cha Cha her stuff, she revved her engine, and when the light turned red, she threw her car into reverse instead of first gear and when flying backwards as Cha Cha left her in the dust. She loved telling this story, and we always loved hearing it. She loved playing cards, spending weekends at camp, watching Hallmark movies, and being surrounded by her family. We were blindsided and devastated by her passing, but we will always remember her beautiful smile and her never ending support in everything we did.

She leaves behind four daughters, Michelle Ganance (Vince), Tracy Rist (Eric), Chrissy Nash (Shawn), Katie Fitzgerald; three grandchildren, Maggie Ganance, Vincent Ganance Jr. and Trinity Rist; and her pets Ralphie and Peach. She was predeceased by her husband Matthew Fitzgerald, daughter Megan Fitzgerald, granddaughter Madison Fitzgerald, and her sister-in-law Sister Laureen Fitzgerald RSM.

Caroline has been privately cremated. Memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday November 9th from 4 to 6pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike, Guilderland. Condolences can be posted at demarcostonefuneralhome.com.
