Carol Ann Bowers,74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 11, 2024 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born on November 27,1949 in Albany NY. She resided there with her family until they moved to Rotterdam in her teenage years. She is the daughter of the late Edmund Shufelt and the late Dorothy Czyzewski (late Stepfather-Adolph).
Carol was very proud to have attended Vincentian Institute in Albany and later graduated from Mohonasen High School when they moved to Rotterdam. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree of Nursing from Maria College and continued to work as a Vascular Nurse for Dr. Blumenberg & Dr. Gelfand in Schenectady for approximately 30 years. Carol’s compassion and fight for her patients made her an outstanding Nurse and was considered family to most.
Carol is survived by her husband of 53 years John Bowers, her son Shawn Bowers, her daughter Summer Leigh Braun (Andy) and her precious grandson Troy Braun. She also leaves behind siblings: Kathleen Ziobrowski(Jeff) and Edmund Shufelt (Lori). Her nieces and nephews: Caitlin Molesky (Paul), Kyle Ziobrowski, Tyler Shufelt, Jessica Williams, Todd Williams, Shaw Williams, and Bianca Reedy. Great Niece Piper Molesky and Great Nephew Oliver Molesky.
Carol was kind, generous and always thought of others before herself. Her infectious laugh and easy to love personality made those she just met become instant best friends. To Carol, “family” was not only reserved for those of the same bloodline but to so many she met throughout her lifetime. Those who meant the world to her extended from lifelong friends to those she only recently met. From New York to Virginia and Florida; anywhere she went she created a family for herself with loving people surrounding her at each location. It was hard not to love her and want to become permanent friends. Personally, and professionally, Carol made you feel important to her.
Carol’s passion for her grandson Troy would always lead her to new adventures and the greatest joy. Gramma & Grandpa traveled hundreds of times to baseball games in Virginia where they became “Team Grandparents”. The boys, coaches, parents and grandparents looked forward to her arrival at each game. Her constant cheering and support for Troy’s team deemed her the “loudest” cheering grandparent on the team. “Go Manassas!”. She couldn’t have been any prouder.
Carol’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be dearly missed.
