Carmela Ann (Sorbero) Brooks

March 30, 1933 — April 2, 2021

Rotterdam - Carmela Ann Brooks, 88,passed peacefully on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Ellis Hospital. Carmela was born in Amsterdam, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Rubina Tagliaferro Sorbero. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Carmela was employed as a Supervisor at the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance in Albany. She retired in 1992 with 37 years of service. She was a longtime faithful member of St. Madeleine Sophie Church serving as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Carmela was also a life member of the Rotterdam Elks LORE and a life member of the Ladies Military Order Of The Purple Heart. In addition to her parents, Carmela was also predeceased by her first husband, Dominick Neri, who died in 1967 and her second husband, Charles J. Brooks, who died in 1998, sisters; Mary Murrane, Lucia Nocian and Rose Sorbero and brothers; Frank Sorbero, Anthony Sorbero, Carman Sorbero, Joseph Sorbero, John Steele and Thomas Sorbero. She is survived by her stepchildren; Susan (Mark) Atkins of Charlton, Peter (Kathy) Brooks of Scotia and Charles ( Marilyn) Brooks, also of Scotia, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 8:45 am to 10:45 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Rd. Burial will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
