Carlton N (Skip) Pott Ii

Carlton N. Pott, II, Esq., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 13th, 2019. He was born December 22nd, 1938, in Fayetteville, NC, to the late Carlton N. Pott and Nettie (Shay) Pott, and they nicknamed him "Skip". He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1957, enrolled in Union College and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1961. He attended Albany Law School graduating in 1965. He was admitted to the New York State Bar the same year and began his practice as an associate with Maynard, O'Connor & Smith, Esqs. Skip became a partner and then managing partner, leaving the practice in 1995 to open his own firm employing an associate whom he made a partner, two of counsel attorneys, and several paralegals. In 2008, Skip opened a solo practice and moved the office into his career home on Brookdale Farm in 2010. However, loving the law and not yet ready to retire, he proudly left private practice to join the R. A. Fuerst Law Group, Latham, earlier this year. Skip also served as Town Attorney for the Town of Ballston from 1995 to 2008. At all times, Skip offered scholarly advice and wise counsel forged in prayer and personal integrity. His word was his bond. Over his 54 years of practice, he held membership in the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, the Schenectady Bar Association, and the Burnt Hills Rotary. He served on the boards of the Ellis Hospital Foundation and the Ingersoll Memorial Home and Schenectady Christian School. Skip served on the Operations Board and volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and Pioneer Club leader at his beloved First Presbyterian Church, Schenectady. He led Bible studies in his home for many years. In 1977, Skip and his wife purchased Brookdale Farm, and he painstakingly restored and replastered every wall himself.Skip was an avid bow and gun hunter, tying his own flies and making his own rods for trout fishing. He loved collecting antiques, old English shotguns, Oriental rugs, and Luger pistols. He taught all three of his children to shoot and taught and practiced strict gun safety. He loved wood working, building colonial furniture, and teaching 4-H Club wood projects. At the age of eight, the elementary school he attended identified his artistic talent and sent him to the Carnegie Mellon Institute for art instruction where he excelled in oils and water colors. A severe knee injury ended his high school and college football exploits. Yet, he counted all of this as loss for the surpassing gain of knowing Christ Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. Skip was predeceased by his dad, mom and his two siblings, Homer Pott and Diane (Pott) Donahue. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Price) Pott, his three children, Christine Foley (Dennis), Jared Pott (Melissa), and Kerith Pott, two granddaughters Leah and Kayla Pott, his three nieces, two nephews, his brother-in-law Jay Price and sister-in-law Carole Holmes Price. Calling hours will begin Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 10:00am followed at 1:00pm by a memorial celebration of Skip's life at First Presbyterian Church, 209 Union Street.
