Rotterdam – Carl LaMalfa, 77, passed away Saturday, September 27th, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Michael and Thelma (Flory) LaMalfa. Carl was a lifelong Rotterdam resident and worked for a brief time at General Electric before serving our country in the United States Army. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart during his deployment in Vietnam along with the Army commendation medal for meritorious service while in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, Carl spent 40 years as a police officer for the Rotterdam Police Department before retiring.
Carl loved his casinos and especially his anniversary trips to Las Vegas and Foxwoods. He was an avid fan of horse racing and car racing and spending time at the Jack & Ronny Johnson garages. Carl enjoyed taking rides whether it was car rides, motorcycle rides with George or horseback riding at Angel Meadow Farms. Carl will be remembered for his love of family and friends whether it was Sunday dinners with Cheryl and Rob enjoying his homemade sauce, breakfast with his fellow retired officers, singing with his granddaughter while she played guitar, spending countless hours on ancestry.com with his niece Mary Lou.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 27 years Debra LaMalfa, his two daughters Angelica (Jesus) Pica and Tiffany LaMalfa, two grandchildren Eva Pica and Tijay LaMalfa, two brothers Charles (Beverly) LaMalfa and Paul (Joanne) LaMalfa, his sister Anita (Anthony) Farina and sister-in-law & brother-in-law Cheryl & Robert Carney.
Carl also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Salvatore (Pearl) & Michael (Phyllis) LaMalfa.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 2nd from 11 am to 2pm at St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow.
Burial, with military honors, will take place at 10:30 am on Friday October 3rd at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. To join the funeral procession please arrive at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam at 9 am.
Memorial contributions may be made in Carl’s memory to Community Hospice, American Cancer Society or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
