Bertha F. Lawyer, 94, passed away on October 30, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Staten Island, NY on September 15, 1929 to Bertha and Christian Nunamann. She graduated from Port Richmond High School and was married to the late Kenneth Lawyer of Middleburgh, NY on August 26, 1950 at St. Roch’s Catholic Church in Staten Island.
After high school she worked at G.E. and the Atomic Energy Commission at Knolls Atomic Power Lab. She went on to work at Schenectady Trust as a trust officer in the Operations and Security Department for 19 years. She was a member of the National Association of Bank Women, served on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Parent & Child Society, as well as on the board for Estate Planners of Eastern New York. Bertha also served on the board and was treasurer of the Animal Protection Foundation of Schenectady. In addition, she was also a member of Home Bureau, PTA, and a 4-H leader.
Together with her husband, she owned and operated The Waterfalls Campsite in Middleburgh, NY. where she made many life-long friends and memories. Bertha enjoyed hobbies, such as crocheting, knitting, oil and tole painting. She also loved sharing stories about her travels to Hawaii, train trips out west, and spending winters in Florida with her husband. She was a great baker and cook and her family always looked forward to her holiday meals.
Bertha is survived by her four children, Ellen (Mike) Zimbal, Kathy (Joe) Blyth, Nancy (John) Casso, and Richard (SaeHee) Lawyer; her grandchildren, Jennifer Zimbal, Kevin Zimbal, Matthew Casso, Kristin Tucker, Stephen Casso, Lindsay Casso, Keith Lawyer, Kelley Lawyer, and Kyle Lawyer; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to say thank you to the Community Hospice nurses, Renee, Tara, and Missy, for their exceptional care and compassion.
A calling hour will be held Thursday, November 2 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady. A funeral service will follow. Burial will be at Schenectady Memorial Park.
