Schenectady - Hall of Famer Bernard A. Regels Sr, 84, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Glendale Nursing Center in Glenville. Bernard was born in Guilderland, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Florance Rosencrans Regels. After attending high school, Bernard served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Bernard was a gifted mechanic. He owned and operated several ARCO stations in Schenectady over the years. He spent his life working on cars, hot rods and dragsters. In 1964, he drove the ”Worlds Quickest Unblown Chevy” dragster and won the Nationals. In 2008 he was inducted into the New England Hot Rod Hall of Fame. In addition to racing, he also loved hunting, fishing, spending time with family and he cared deeply for all animals. In addition to his parents, Bernard was also predeceased by his wife, Barbara Regels, siblings, Donald Regels, Arnold Regels, Dorothy Putnum, Marjorie Curren and Edward Regels. He is survived by his children, Joann Regels, Bernard A. Regels Jr., Richard J. (Theresa) Regels and Shelly Facci, two brothers, Herbert Regels and Ronnie Regels, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be private.
