Rotterdam – Bernadine M. DeMatteo, 88, passed away at home on Sunday October 3, 2021. Born in Schenectady on May 14, 1933, she was the daughter of Nickolas and Mary (DeMarco) Mauro. Bernadine was a 1952 graduate of the former Mt. Pleasant High School. She married her husband, John P. DeMatteo, on January 29, 1955. Bernadine was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She will be forever remembered for her love of her family. She enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to the casino. Her husband John passed away on December 10, 2011. She leaves behind her two sons Evan (June) DeMatteo and John DeMatteo Jr. Three grandchildren Nicholas (Amber) DeMatteo, John J. DeMatteo and Jake (Jeongah) Sim. Three great grandchildren Avery DeMatteo, Leah Sim and Lena Sim. Her sister Dolores Ridley and brother Nicholas (Doris) Mauro Jr. As well as her brother-in-law Everett Tate. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband she was predeceased by her brother Chester Mauro and in-laws, Dorothy Mauro, David Ridley, Joseph (Viola) DeMatteo, Frances LaGreca, Mary Tate and Angelina (Richard) Bray. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers Cindy Capobianco and Kimberly Lamora for the compassionate care given to our mother. Special thanks to her niece Carol Ann Kelly and nephew Norman VanNatten for the extraordinary love and support during our mother’s illness. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-7pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 9:15am Saturday at the funeral home followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial donations may be made in Bernadine’s memory to Our Lady of Mt.
