Ben F Gerardo

Rotterdam Junction - Ben F. Gerardo, 68, of Rotterdam Jct. died Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Ellis Hospital. Ben was born in Utica, NY. He attended Proctor High School and Oswego State. He was a devoted teacher and tutor for over 40 years. Most of his years of teaching were at CBA in Albany and Schalmont High School in Rotterdam. Ben taught Math, he ran the quarter master store and ran the Drama Club. He was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Little League. He was also very involved in the children’s ministry at his church including puppets, Sunday school superintendent and kids church. Ben also held a position on the board of elders for many years. He was known and loved by many as “G”, Mr.G, Uncle Ben and now Papa Ben. He loved so many like they were his own. Ben was predeceased by his beloved wife Gail, who died in 2010, his father, Anthony Gerardo and brother Peter Gerardo. He is survived by his mother, Antoinette Gerardo, seven children, Anthony (Pam) Gerardo, Alisha Gerardo, Lorraine (Erik) Corlew, Benjamin (Jennie) Gerardo, Jonathan (KT) Gerardo, Nathan (Jennifer) Gerardo and Victoria Gerardo, ten grandchildren, Alexandria, Damien, Dominic, Elena, Olivia, Reese, Isabella, Asher, Parker and Gabriella Gerardo, his brother Anthony (Donna) Gerardo as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin on Saturday morning, 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial donations be made to the Ben Gerardo Memorial Fund, C/O Community Fellowship at Princetown, 3616 Currybush Rd. Schenectady, NY 12306.
