Schenectady – Barbara M. Berman, age 85, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 22nd, 2021. Born in Sudbury, England, Barbara was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elsie (Drury) Root. Barbara was educated in England and later met and wed her husband, Ronald while he was stationed there serving in the US Air Force. After Ronald’s discharge, the two relocated to New York City where Barbara raised her family and worked for many years as a trim buyer at Expo Beau David Limited in Manhattan. In 1993, her family moved to the Capital Region where Barbara enjoyed working as a lunch aid at The International Charter School of Schenectady. A woman with a fantastic sense of humor, Barbara was an avid card player who never folded a hand. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting as well as listening to her Celtic and country western music. She excelled at flower gardening and greatly enjoyed garage sales, puzzles, bingo and playing the slots. She had a great interest in animals and wildlife. Her local birds and squirrels would wait patiently for breakfast each morning outside her back door. Barbara was predeceased by her dear husband of 51 years, Ronald E. Berman and one brother, Neville Root. She leaves behind her children, Elaine Gonzalez, Steven Berman, Jeffrey (Veronica) Berman and Martin Berman; grandchildren, Lisa, Michele, Thomas, Alex, Michael, Devin and Jennifer, along with 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 10-11am on Friday, February 26th at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11am. Barbara will be laid to rest next to Ronald at Schenectady Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
