Obituary: Augustine "Gus" Balascio Augustine "Gus" Balascio entered into eternal rest on April 18, 2016, after a brief illness. Gus was born in Albany (N.Y.) on February 22, 1928 to Nicholas and Mary (née Fuina) Balascio. He attended Albany parochial schools and was a proud graduate of the former Vincentian Institute. Gus moved to Schenectady in 1960. A World War II ear veteran, Gus was employed by the federal government at the Watervliet Arsenal for more than 40 years. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman who enjoyed spending weekends and summers at his camp on Friends' Lake. In addition to his parents, Gus was pre-deceased by his son, Gerard, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Michael and Carmela DiCerbo. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dona (née Fiore) Balascio, his sons, Mark (Rebecca), and John; and grandchildren, Anthony, Joseph, and Michela Balascio. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel (Barbara) Balascio, and his sister-in-law, Mary Fiore, as well as many nieces and nephews. Gus was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Services will be conducted by Rev. Dominic Isopo, Pastor, St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam, N.Y. at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016. Calling hours will be held prior to the service, beginning at 12 Noon. Internment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, N.Y.
