Arthur Raymond Wright, 54, of Niskayuna, NY, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 2nd, after a 2 year battle against lung cancer. Art was born in Albany, NY, on December 15, 1958, to Arthur H. and Janet J. Wright. A graduate of Duanesburg Central Schools, Art proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft electrician from 1977-1981. Upon discharge from the Navy, Art worked for the Department of Defense (DoD) Navy in Norfolk, VA, until his return to the area in 1985, whereupon he worked for DoD Army at Watervliet Arsenal until 1999. At that time, he transferred to the Stratton VA Medical Center, where he worked as an Information Technology Specialist until his death. Art was well known for his love of digging and collecting rocks and minerals, gardening, metal detecting, hunting, fishing, and a general interest in nature's wonders. In addition to his wife, Pamela, Art is survived by his children, Arthur, Brian, Ashley, Shelby, and Brenna, along with his beloved grandson, Andrew. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce (Kim), sister Deb (Rick), 4 nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as his mother-in-law, Margery Cook and brother-in-law, Timothy Vanderlaan (Sue), and his beloved cats, Bandit and Boots. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday, 10:30 am at the funeral home.Burial will be at Grove Cemetery in Quaker St. The family wants to thank Dr. Stephen Wrzesinski, Bernadette, "Little Lisa", and the rest of the St. Peter's Hospital Oncology outpatient clinic staff for their love and care shown towards the "Mayor", 6P staff (especially Sarah), and Dr. Lecia Sequist & staff at Massachusetts General Hospital. We also want to thank our "family" at the Stratton VA Medical Center for their support, especially Lori Hoffman-Hogg, and all our family and friends who have stood by us throughout this journey. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Club, Latham, NY or Community Hospice of Schenectady, NY.
