Arleen L. McDevitt, age, 69, died Sunday December 1, 2013 after a long illness of heart disease.She was the wife of John R. McDevitt for 47 years. She was born in Glens Falls, NY, August 12, 1944, the daughter of Neil (deceased) & Noella Townsend. She graduated from Hudson Falls High School, SUNY Oswego and Masters Degree from SUNY Plattsburgh, NY.She taught school from 1965-mid-70's.Her husband's work took them to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and California.She also worked 22 years for Metropolitan, GMAC and Travelers Insurance Co. Besides her husband, John, she is survived by her son, Matthew (Pamela) McDevitt, her daughter, Elizabeth (Paul)McDevitt-Coppola , her mother,Noella Townsend, her (twin) sister, Dr. Aileen Townsend and Peter Paravoti of Oriskany, NY , her brother , Warren (June) Townsend of Oneonta, NY.She has 2 nephews & 1 niece - Brian, Denise & Casey on her side of the family. On the McDevitt side, she is survived by Thomas & the late Catherine McDevitt, Peter McDevittand his late wife- Carol, JamesMcDevitt, Richard & Marcia McDevitt,Mary (Raphael) McDevitt-Kraljic,as well as Marcella McDevitt and many nieces and nephews.She is also survived by 5 great-nephews: Neal, Ryan, Lukas, Benjamin and Braeden as well as 4 great- nieces: Jessica, Juliann and Evelyn and Sakura. She was blessed to have had many friends and associates who were supportive during her lifetime, and was a member of St. Madeline-Sophie Church/Guilderland, and involved in the choir, Eucharistic Minister, as well as numerous civic duties and fund raisers for charity. The family wishes to express their tremendous appreciation to Hospice for the care, kindness, support and compassion in the care of Arleen during her illness. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Tpk. in Guilderland, NY. Funeral services will begin on Thursday morning, 9:15 from the funeral home, followed at 10 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Madeline-Sophie Church, Guilderland with Fr. James Belogi officiating.Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Lake George, NY. There will be no graveside services. Private services at the cemetery will be done later at the convenience ofthefamily.
