Rotterdam, NY-Antonio P. "Tony" Bernardi, age 88, of John Alden Lane, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 7, 2015 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Popoli, Province of Pescara, Italy on March 16, 1927, son of the late Jerry and Maria (Ottaviani) Bernardi and educated in Schenectady schools.Mr. Bernardi served during World War II with the United States Navy, receiving an honorable discharge.He was united in marriage with Tommasina Rotundo at Mt. Carmel Church, Schenectady in 1960; a loving and dedicated union of 55 years.He was employed for many years of dedicated service with General Electric as a turbine operator, retiring at the age of 60. Mr.Bernardi was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by his loved ones and was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157 along with the GE Quarter Century Club.He enjoyed boating and working on cars, in his spare time. Survivors include his wife, Tommasina at home; his children,Carol Casale and husband Frank of Latham, and Gerald Bernardi and wife Joanne of Rotterdam; a sister, Rena Reo of Rotterdam; grandchildren, Julia and Lisa Casale and Ian and Matthew Bernardi; a nephew, Paul Reo; a sister in law, Theresa Rotundo of Ohio; along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Bernardi's funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady where Father Robert Hohenstein, pastor will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna where entombment will take place.The family will receive relatives and friends, prior to the service, at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home on Saturday, from 8:30-10:15 am. Kindly consider sending memorial contributions in his name to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.The family would like to thank the staff on C-4 at Ellis Hospital with special thanks to Maureen Watson, RN, for the kindness and compassion during this difficult time.Members of the Rotterdam Elk's will conduct ritualistic services at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 am.
