Rotterdam- Antoinette Marie LaMotta Collura was born on June 13, 1926, the daughter of Thomas and Marianne LaMotta, in Brooklyn, N.Y.Antoinette was peacefully called to her eternity, after a long illness, on Tuesday, August 27, at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her three brothers, Carl, Joseph and James. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph; her four children, Russell (Cheryl) of Peckville, PA., Maria Collura and Christine Burns (Robert) all of Rotterdam, N.Y., Thomas (Barbara) of Delmar, N.Y. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren, JoAnne, Christina and Kayla Collura, Ariel Collins (Roman), Gina and Matthew Figler, Lindsey and Meghan Burns, and J. Maxwell Collura, as well as great-granddaughters, Shayna and Joli Antoinette Collins and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Antoinette was a skillful homemaker. Her sewing and cooking talents were legion and she developed a great library of outstanding recipes. For many years, she volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at the former Immaculate Conception Church in Schenectady and to the homebound friends and parishioners. She later volunteered as "the banker" for the school children at the elementary school which her grandchildren also attended. She took seriously each responsibility; as a school board member and Altar Rosary President. While she was happy in Rotterdam, she was very loyal to her early Brooklyn heritage, extending from the Great Depression to the mid 1950's; having vivid memories of the Brooklyn Dodgers, President Roosevelt, Mayor LaGuardia, and the World War II years. She graduated in January 1943 from Girls Commercial High School, Brooklyn, N.Y. completing courses in Dress Design and Dressmaking. She worked for top-line ladies fashion designers in New York City. For many years, she worked for Musler's in Schenectady. In 1954, she met Joseph, her future husband, who was working in the financial district in New York City. They were married in Brooklyn that year. She enjoyed many years as a wife and mother and grandmother and relocating with her husband when he was promoted to work in San Francisco and Philadelphia. Her later years in Rotterdam were full of joyful memories with her husband, children, grandchildren and good friends. Calling hours will be held Friday, August 30 from6 to 8pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. Friends are invited to a Saturday 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Rd., Rotterdam.Burial will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
