Anthony "Tony" Muscatiello

February 7, 1951 — September 2, 2024

Rotterdam - Anthony "Tony" Muscatiello, 73, a beloved husband, father, and brother from Rotterdam, passed away on September 2, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Tony was born on February 7, 1951, to Anthony and Carmella Muscatiello in Albany, NY. Throughout his youth, he lived in various places and attended elementary and secondary schools in Canada, New Jersey, Syracuse, and Buffalo, NY. Despite his frequent relocations, Tony quickly made friends wherever he went due to his love of sports and his natural way with people. He was an athlete from a young age, playing youth baseball, soccer, basketball, football, and wrestling. Tony was a standout football player and wrestler in high school, being named an All-League football player. He was selected as team captain in both sports, as well as being a member of the track and field team as a sprinter.

After graduating from Cheektowaga High School in Buffalo, NY, in 1969, Tony earned an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Schenectady County Community College. He then obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from SUNY Buffalo, a Master’s in Education from the College of St. Rose in Albany, and later earned a School Administration and Supervision (SAS) Certificate. Tony began his teaching career at the Schenectady Children’s Home in Schenectady, NY, followed by a brief stint as a job placement counselor at the Schenectady ARC. In 1986, Tony returned to teaching and spent the remainder of his career as a Special Education Teacher for the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District, retiring in June 2014.

Tony’s passion for sports extended into his professional life, where he coached boys’ and girls’ sports teams at Berne-Knox-Westerlo. In his personal time, he served as a softball umpire and a wrestling referee for many years. Tony enjoyed playing golf, skiing, sailing, daily workouts at the gym, jogging, and walking. He was known for his extensive collection of movies and albums, and his favorite bands were The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Tony was predeceased by his father, Anthony Muscatiello, and his mother, Carmella Muscatiello.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Frances Muscatiello (formerly Mackey); his children, Nicholas Muscatiello of Schenectady, Mariesa Bourgeois and her husband, Joseph Bourgeois, of Ballston Lake; and his siblings, Elizabeth Waite of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Neil Muscatiello (Maureen) of Northville, and Martin Muscatiello (Maxine) of Marlborough, MA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and his brothers- and sisters-in-law.
