Anthony A "Tony" Farina

Rotterdam, NY-Mr. Anthony A. "Tony" Farina, 90, of Glenville Street, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 20, 2015 in the comfort of his home with the love and support of his wife by his side. Tony was born in Schenectady, on Feb. 19, 1925, son of the late Michele and Louisa (Ferri) Farina and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School.He was united in marriage with the former Anita LaMalfa with whom he enjoyed a loving and blessed union of 61 years.Tony was a proud veteran, serving during WWII from 1943 to 1946 with the 518th Port Battalion 900th Infantry, 726 Military Police.He was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge and served in the European and Asian Theatres, receiving a bronze star for his effort in three invasions. Tony also received five major battle stars.He was formerly employed with General Electric as a tester in the motor and generator division, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service.Many in Schenectady/Rotterdam will remember Tony fondly as the owner and operator of "Photo by Tony" which he operated for over 40 years.He was a member of the VFW Post #1895 (Draper Ave.) and member of the GE Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of the GE Iue-Cio Local 301 and was their photographer.He was a faithful communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Tony was a loving and accomplished husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be sadly missed by his family.He enjoyed stock cars, boating, snowmobiling and anything that took place outdoors.Most of all, he had a passion for photography and made a wonderful living taking pictures. Survivors include his loving family; his wife of 61 years, Anita; a daughter, Mary Lou Caprara and husband Paul of Niskayuna, daughter, Joanne Farina of Scotia, son, Michael Farina and wife Rebecca of Princetown, son, Anthony Farina and wife Angelika of Rotterdam; his cherished grandchildren, Dawn (Steve), Donnie, Tanja, Michael, Jamos (Ashley) and Michael, Jr.; his adored great grandchildren, Demytrei, Tayshaun, and Gia; a brother, Mario Farina (Ann) of Troy; several nieces, nephewsand in laws. The family will receive relatives and friends at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from 5-8 p.m.The funeral will commence at 9:15 am on Wednesday, March 25th from the funeral home and at 10 am from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Rd., Schenectady with Father Vincent Ciotoli, Pastor and Father Richard Carlino, officiating.Procession will follow to St. John's Cemetery, Schenectady where interment will take place. Military honors will be accorded by the US Army.Kindly consider memorial offerings to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Schenectady; envelopes are available at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home. Tony's family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Care Choices for their kindness and compassion.Also, a special thanks to Father Vincent Ciotoli and Father Richard Carlino for their spiritual guidance.Members of the VFW Post #1895 (Draper Ave.) will conduct a service at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
