Schenectady

Anthony Joseph Cristello, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025 at the age of 83. Born in Schenectady, NY on September 28, 1942, he was the beloved son of the late Aniello Joseph Cristello and Anna (Costa) Cristello. He was predeceased by his sister Joan (Cristello) Scorzella (the late Joseph “Macky” Scorzella). A devoted family man, he is survived by his wife, Marianne (Scavullo) Cristello and daughter, Jamie Cristello, sister Marilyn (Cristello) DiVietro (the late Frank), brother Salvatore (Peg) and many beloved nieces and nephews, who brought him great joy.
A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, he worked as a draftsman at the General Electric Company for several years. He pursued his interest in art by attending Albany State (SUNY Albany). He left to help his mother run the family restaurant, Cristello’s Restaurant (a staple in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood). He later went on to be a self- employed barber.
He was happiest when he was with his family and friends (many of whom were from early childhood). He was always ready to be there with a helping hand and always put others before himself. He was the loving husband who gave unwavering support, the devoted father who protected and taught lifelong skills, the brother/brother-in-law who was there to support in any way possible, the uncle who loved, teased, played, and helped, and the friend who was there in good times and bad.
A parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Anthony was a gifted artist who shared his God-given talents in any and every way he could. He provided artistic displays for many church functions through the years and helped the annual Festa, whether it was making signs for booths or scooping Lemon Ice.
He was well known for his oil paintings and pastels of horses, many of which are on display in Saratoga. He was on the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame Committee until his death and shared his artistic talents through the numerous collages he created for the annual dinner event. Through the years he was also responsible for artwork done in several areas in Schenectady High School as well as Woodlawn Elementary School.
In addition to his love of painting, he loved woodworking and sculpting and created cherished works for family and friends. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed ice fishing with his father in his younger years and seasonal fishing, later in life.
His work in the family restaurant inspired his love of cooking. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends and prided himself on still making a good pizza.
