Schenectady – Anna Theresa Famiano, age 99, passed away on Sunday, March 26th, 2023 just two weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Anna was born and raised in Amsterdam, NY, to Enrico Bianchi and Amelia (Leonetti) Bianchi. She was one of eighteen children who lived in a third floor flat on Bridge Street, loving every minute of it. Anna graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1941. She worked for a brief time at the Mohawk Rug Mill, followed by the Navy Depot in Scotia where she met the love of her life, James Henry Famiano. They were married on June 12, 1949 and moved to Schenectady, where they raised their 5 beautiful daughters. Gifted with many talents, at the top of the list was cooking for family and friends. Many a Sunday, Anna could be found making her homemade pasta, meatballs and sauce. She also enjoyed planning and putting on birthday parties for family and friends but always found time for her hobbies: bowling, bingo and sewing. Besides her parents, Anna was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, James H. Famiano and her daughter, Susan Piechnik. Anna leaves behind her 4 daughters, Barbara Colon, Judith Messere (Nick), Linda DiCaprio (Richard) and Donna Lessard (Gary); her grandchildren, Kathryn Piechnik, Jessica Coons, Joleen Hensley, Nicholas Messere, Stacia Devine, Joseph DiCaprio, Michael DiCaprio, Amy Reynolds, Anthony Lessard and Kimberly Lessard as well as 20 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Yolanda Bianchi. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 3rd from 8:15am to 10:15am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue in Rotterdam. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant Street, Schenectady. Anna will be laid to rest with her husband at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Anna’s name may be made to Community Hospice, 310 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208. Anna’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and the Community Hospice volunteers for their kindness in caring for our mother.
