Schenectady - Angelina Puorto, 85, of Schenectady, NY passed away Wednesday January 22, 2014 at Glendale Nursing Home in Glenville, NY surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ruviano, Italy on February 16, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Domenico Cusano and Maria Mascia, who passed away due to labor complications after giving birth to Angelina. She was the youngest of six siblings; Vincenza Perretta, Raffaele Cusano, Andrea Cusano, Arturo Cusano, Angelo Cusano and Teresa Cusano. Teresa is the last survivor of the Magnificent Seven, she resides in Pastorano, Italy. Angelina was a devoted wife to the late Giovanni Puorto who passed away on March 18, 1962 in Ruviano, Italy. In 1968 she decided to give her two sons a better life by boarding a ship to America. Angelina then began to work at The Coin Laundry on Erie Blvd. and continued onto Ellis Hospital as a housekeeper until she retired, submerging herself into her favorite profession being a fulltime grandmother. Some of Angelina's favorite activities were gardening, sewing and knitting clothes for her grandchildren and cooking many delicious meals for her family. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Alfonso Puorto, on December 13, 1993 and survived by her youngest son, Antonio Puorto of Schenectady, NY. She was a caring mother-in-law to Melanie Punte-Puorto and Kim D'Arpino-Puorto. A devoted grandmother to Angela, Daniela, Gabriella, Giovanna & Gianluca Puorto. A loving great grandmother to the daughter of Gabriella, Lucy Sofia LaMorte. A special thanks goes out to Angelina's nurse Jeanette and the aides who cared for her at Glendale Nursing Home. Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held Sunday January 26, 2014 from 4-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 9 am Monday at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial, to commemorate Angelina's life, at St. Anthony's Church, corner of Nott St. & Seward Place. Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Angelina touched so many lives with her kindness and simple smile that said so much.
