Angela "Mary" Sterlina Mcgillin

Schenectady – Angela “Mary” Sterlina McGillin, 94, passed away on Friday, June 30th, 2023 following a short period of declining health.

Born in Schenectady, Mary was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Anna (Malgieri) Sterlina.

She was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, class of 1947.

Mary worked at the General Electric Company for 42 years where she was a member of the GE Women’s Club.

In Mary’s spare time she played in several local golf leagues, enjoyed reading and traveling throughout the US and Europe, often visiting family with her mother in Italy. Mary loved to entertain and spend time with her family and friends, always making them feel welcome.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, John “Jack” McGillin and her siblings, Carmela Ligato (Angelo) and Frank Sterlina (Shirley).

She leaves behind her niece, Rochelle Cortelyou (Gregory), nephews, Patrick Sterlina (Theresa) and Frank Sterlina (Cindy) as well as several great nieces and nephews, Jacques and Graig Cortelyou (Caitlin), Douglas Sterlina (Megan) and Anna Cutchin (Andrew) and Matthew Sterlina (Maylot) and two great great nieces, Norah Sterlina and Lyla Cutchin.

She also leaves behind her step-daughter, Sharon Overton and her husband, Jack, along with their children, Courtney Overton, Lindsey Overton Orietas (Thalis) and Jaime Overton and great grandchildren, Calla and Emilia Orietas.

Mary’s family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway Manor for their kindness and excellent care they provided.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 am prior to the service.

Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady
