Schenectady – Andrea M. Gahr, 70, died in the comfort of her home surrounded by her adoring family on Saturday August 5, 2017 after a short illness. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Victoria Monaco DeFilippo. A lifelong Schenectady resident, Andrea was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and went on to graduate from the Spencer Business Institute. Andrea retired from the State University of New York after 40 years of service as a Senior Data Entry Machine Operator. A communicant of St. Luke’s Church, she also was a volunteer at St. Luke’s Food Pantry. Andrea was a loving grandma to her furbabies and her greatest accomplishment was her undying love and selfless commitment to her children, Doreen (Henry) Bottieri and David (Jessica) Gahr. She is survived by her children; Doreen (Henry) Bottieri of Schenectady and David (Jessica) Gahr of Hagaman. Her beloved sister; Patricia Fazzone of Schenectady. Her brother; Richard (Edie) DeFilippo of Glenville. Nieces and nephews; Richard DeFilippo of East Greenbush, Andrea Kieft (Jeff) Green of Schenectady, Denise (Robert) Podbielski of Glenville, Anthony Fazzone of Melrose, MA, Victoria Fazzone of Schenectady and Nicholas Laurin of Schenectady. Along with her parents, Andrea was predeceased by her sister, Joyce Laurin, and her nephew, Michael Fazzone. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the entire family and friends for your support and kindness. A memorial service will be held 7:15 pm Thursday at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Calling hours will precede the service from 5-7 pm.
