Schenectady - Amerina Paniccia, 95, passed away in her sleep on Friday January 13, 2023, following an extended illness. She passed just 3 months following the death of her husband of 69 years, Umberto, 97, and she was also the last remaining of 8 siblings. Amerina was born near Veroli, Frosinone, Italy in 1927. She survived war-torn central Italy and was then separated from Umberto for 5 years. She waited during these 5 years for Umberto to emigrate to the US, to become a US citizen, and to return to Italy to marry his childhood sweetheart, Amerina Mauti. The wedding celebration which took place in May of 1953 and was a major event in the small village where both Umberto and Amerina were born. Following the wedding, the couple relocated to Schenectady, New York. Amerina was an expert seamstress and, being the daughter of a chef, was an excellent chef in her own right. She typically prepared delicious classic Italian dinners when friends and family gathered at the house. Many of her meals used the fresh vegetables which were grown by Umberto in their garden. Amerina is predeceased by her husband Umberto, and survived by her children John (Lauren) Paniccia of New Jersey, Lucy (George) Cox of North Carolina, Robert (Carol) Paniccia of North Carolina, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was a very devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who had endless love for all. Visitation at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial will be public and held at 11:00 on Friday January 20th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant Street, Schenectady. A burial service will be public and held at Saint Cyril Cemetery, Duanesburg Road, Schenectady, at 12:00 on Friday January 20th.
