Alfred Kommel, 88 of Schenectady, died on Friday, October 18, 2013 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Alfred served in the 756th Tank Battalion Co. "D " in central Europe and Germany during WWII, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Alfred worked as a Manager at the Mohawk Club in Schenectady's stockade area and retired after 20 years of service. Following his retirement he volunteered at Sunnyview Hospital for 9 years. Alfred was a member of Calvary Tabernacle Assembly of God Church in Schenectady and it's Friendship Fellowship. In addition to his parents Jacob and Rae Kommel,Alfred was also predeceased by his first wife Alice Kommel to whom he was married for 52 years, as well as his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife Jewel Emerle-Kommel, five children; Tommy Joe (Patty) Berry, Elaine Reichel, Dolores Southard, Bruce Camp and Darryl (Rosemary) Camp, 23 grandchildren, 30+ great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild. Additionally, he is survived by his best friends, Teddy and Vicky, as well as nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be held on Monday from 10-11 am at Calvary Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, 1840 Albany St. Schenectady, followed by funeral services at 11 am. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in his name to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105-1942. Burial with military honors will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
