Alfred John Alois

Alfred John Alois, age 72, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, on Monday, March 12th, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. Born on September 4th 1945 to Alfonse and Mary Alois in Schenectady, New York, John was a lifelong resident and advocate for his city. Affectionately known by many nicknames suchas Uncle Johnny, the Stallion, or as he was known by so many, simply Daddy, he often ended up touching the lives of those he came across. In his early 20s, he worked his way up the Army ranks to the title of Specialist level five, where he worked as a communication officer and ran military radio stations during the Vietnam War. A lifelong music lover, after returning home he spent time performing as the lead singer for his band, the Premiers. It was during this time that he met his wife, Michele. On November 7th, 1975 they were wed and would have three children, first Jessie, then Libby, and finally Johnny in 1991. He worked as a turbine manufacturer at General Electric for over 25 years, retiring back in 2005. John is honored and remembered by his wife Michele, their three children, Jessie (Herwin) Diaz, Libby and Johnny Alois, as well as his two grandchildren, Anabel and Adrian Diaz. Both his parents and brother, Doug, predeceased him, along with countless loved ones for whom he cared so deeply, most recently his cousin Scortch. But the extent of his family cannot simply be defined by his immediate family. John was a special spirit who often opened his heart and home to those who needed it most, even if it was sometimes begrudgingly. As such, there are countless individuals who considered him a father, including, but not limited to, Michelle (Soleil Mon), Grace (Hail Mary), Christine (Tino), John Bobbitt, Grace Digena, and Justin (Poopsie). He lives on in the hearts and minds of the numerous people who loved him like a father, brother, or friend. As per his longtime wish, his body was donated as an anatomical gift to the Albany Medical College, but a memorial service will be held Friday, March 30th, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at Demarco-Stone Funeral Home at 1605 Helderberg Ave in Rotterdam.
