Aldona Vaitulis, 88, of Guilderland, passed away at home on Monday, July 13, 2015. Born on Oct. 11, 1926 in Chicago, Ill., Aldona was the oldest of three children. She moved to Guilderland as a child and went through the 8th grade at the former Pine Bush School, a 2 room schoolhouse.She graduated from Draper High School and then attended Oneonta State Teachers College. Her first teaching job was back at the Pine Bush School she had attended 8 years earlier. After 3 years, she moved to Germany to teach US Army dependants. Two years later she moved back to the US and took a teaching position with the Burnt Hills School District from which she retired.Aldona had many friends and enjoyed traveling to Iowa and other destinations out west every year to visit relatives. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Schenectady Business and Professional Women's Club and served on it's Scholarship committee, and was also a member of Mensa. Aldona was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Nellie Varaska Vaitulis and her brother, Joseph Vaitulis Jr, who died in 1946. She is survived by her brother Vetto (Marie) Vaitulis of Guilderland. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.Funeral services will immediately follow on Thursday evening at the funeral home at 8 pm. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
