Duanesburg – Alan W. Tygert, 66, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 25th, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Schenectady, Alan was the son of Dorothy Gifford Tygert and the late Ralph Wendell Tygert. He was a graduate of Schalmont High School and SUNY Cobleskill. Alan began his career in 1986 as a firefighter and paramedic for the City of Schenectady, where he served as Union President, retiring as Captain in 2011. He also worked for decades alongside his brother and father laying custom wood floors for Tygert Enterprises. Alan was a decade-long member and former president of the Schalmont Board of Education, during which time he started the local Dollars for Scholars, raising money for student scholarships. He was a mentor to many Schenectady youth through Kids Hope USA. Alan also served for 3 years on the consistory at Bellevue Reformed Church. Any hobby Alan had, he excelled at. Whether playing his favorite game of pool, cooking beautiful meals or creating gorgeous pieces of cabinetry and furniture for his family, he was a true craftsman. He wanted to make the world a more beautiful place through helping others and creating heirloompieces. Above all else, his favorite thing to do was spend time with his wife, Pamela, children and grandchildren. He was famous with his grandkids for taking them on tractor rides around his property. Alan also treasured his Saturday breakfasts with his brother and friends and going to lunch with his firefighter friends. Alan is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Coombs Tygert, whom he married on June 2nd, 1979; his loving children, Mark Tygert, Teresa Kneezel (Timothy) and Beth Halayko (Brendan); adored grandchildren, Joanna, Clara, Oliver, Cate and Brayden; his mother, Dorothy Tygert; his siblings, Carol Bailey (Jim) and Kent Tygert (Cindy) as well as many cherished inlaws, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his son-in-law, Tim Neild. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 4-7pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home,1605 Helderberg Avenuein Rotterdam. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 10am at Bellevue Reformed Church, 2000 Broadway, Schenectady.
