William M. Kearney (Bill), 64, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, July 29, 2018 with his family at his bedside. Born in Albany, Bill graduated from Cobleskill Central High School and received his Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology from Alfred State College. Bill was an Electronics Technician with GE Global Research in Niskayuna for 40 years and retired in 2015 after a very long, successful career. Among many technical skills, Bill specialized in computer aided design and laser processing. His dedication and work ethics contributed to his success. He was often requested for highly critical projects from engineers to support programs involving nanoscale laser processing. Bill enjoyed being in the outdoors whether it was fishing, hunting, camping, or just enjoying the backcountry in his Jeep. Bill was a member of the Conservation Club, the Woodlawn Sportsmen's Club, was an Emergency Medical Technician and was also an Amateur Ham Radio Operator. Bill is predeceased by his parents, William J. Kearney and Jean (Kennedy) Kearney and sister-in-law Paula Kearney. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Gerry (Torrey) Kearney, his three daughters, Jennine (Joe) LeDuc of Poestenkill, Jessica (Ryan) Bennett of Poestenkill, and Jacklyn (Tom) Walters of Monroe, His three brothers, John (Sue) Kearney of Napolean Ohio, James Kearney of Almond North Carolina, and Steve (Jaclyn) Kearney of Rotterdam NY and his eight grandchildren. Bill’s greatest joys came from being with his family and being surrounded by his grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:30 am.
