Schenectady- Richard “Scortch” Alois, 66, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Ellis Hospital on September 14, 2017. He was born on November 20, 1950 a son of the late Richard and Geraldine DiDonato Alois. For over 20 years Richard was employed by the City of Schenectady as a Building Inspector retiring in 2012. Richard was a member of the Confusion Athletic Club and coached Bellevue Little League for 18 years. He greatly enjoyed trips to the casinos, playing the horses, golf, darts and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He and his beloved wife Sandi owned and operated Longshots Tavern, The Electric Library on Crane Street, and many years ago Romano’s Pizza. Richard is survived by his cherished wife Sandi Smith Alois, whom he married in 1975, their children; Brandon (Leann) Alois, Nathan Alois and Benjamin (Melanie) Alois all of Schenectady, his brother; Bill (Kelly) Alois of New Hampshire and two sisters; Karen Suriano Breyo of Gloversville and Rae-Ann (Fred) Mastroianni, his cousin “Uncle” Johnny (Michelle) Alois . Richard is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and in laws. In addition to his parents, Richard was also predeceased by his step parents; Carole Alois and Al Suriano and his brother in law Joseph Breyo. Family and friends may call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc 1605 Helderberg Ave Rotterdam on Wednesday September 20, 2017 from 4 pm to 7 pm. Immediately following, funeral services will begin at 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton St. Schenectady, NY 12305 or to a charity of one’s choice.
