Edward W Patka

Edward William Patka, 71, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3 2018. Born in Schenectady on May 25, 1946, Edward was the son of the late Constantine and Pauline (Kovarovic) Patka. He was a Graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, earned his Bachelors from Russell Sage, and his graduate degree from the University at Albany. Ed worked in the Schenectady City School District at Hamilton Elementary for 32 years where he taught 4th-6th Grade and then later Remedial Math. Ed served in the U.S. Army in Japan & Korea as a Psychiatric Social Worker and was honorably discharged in 1974. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, smoking cigars and spending time at his Adirondack cabin. Mr. Patka is survived by his two daughters, Suzanne (Chris) Lupia of Tampa, FL, and Michelle Patka of Rotterdam. Ed also leaves behind two grandsons, Leo & Sal Lupia. In addition to his parents, Edward was also predeceased by his wife, Joyce, (Casino) Patka, who died in 2010, and his brothers Robert, Richard, and James Patka. Calling hours will be held Friday, April 13th, from 6-8 pm at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A Memorial service will begin at 8 pm at the funeral home. A graveside committal service will be held at 11am on Saturday April 14th at St’s Cyril & Method Cemetery.
