Dorese M. (Lewis) Doherty, 58, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Dorese was born in Oswego, NY the daughter of David and Barbara Lewis. She grew up in Syracuse, NY attending North Syracuse High School followed by Nursing School at St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing in Utica, NY where she became a Registered Nurse. After starting her career in various pediatric units in the Syracuse area, Dorese proudly worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in their pediatrics unit in New York City. She relocated back to the Syracuse area in 1984 where she married the love of her life, Brian, and continued her career at St. Joseph's Hospital. In 1992, she found her home in the Capital District where she raised her three beautiful children and discovered the compassionate mission of St. Peter's Hospital. Her desire to care for others driven by her unyielding faith compelled her to serve on two medical missions to Peru in 2010 and 2011. She practiced her work with unrelenting passion, always putting the needs of her patients' selflessly ahead of her own. In recognition of her dedication, St. Peter's Hospital awarded her with the prestigious "2016 Nurse of Excellence Award" She was a lifelong runner, enjoyed the benefits of a ten year yoga practice and loved working in her garden. She was an avid reader and found joy in cooking for her family, particularly Thanksgiving dinner. Although she touched the lives of so many, she would tell you, the greatest accomplishment of her life is her family. Dorese was predeceased by her brother David M. Lewis. She is survived by her husband of 32 years Brian Doherty, her three adoring children; Caitlin Doherty (fiancé Kevin Pluff), Matthew Doherty and Shannon Doherty. She is also survived by her parents David and Barbara Lewis, her sisters; Darlene Lewis and Carole Taylor (Ed), seventeen nieces and nephews, nine great nieces and nephews and countless friends. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Tpk. (Rt. 20) in Guilderland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, 10 am at St. Madeleine-Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Rd. Burial will follow the Mass at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
