Rotterdam – David R. Butterfield, 65, passed away on Thursday, October 12th, 2017 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Amsterdam, NY, David was the son of the late Alfred and Betty (VanSickler) Butterfield. A graduate of Mohonasen High School, David worked for the Town of Rotterdam Parks Department, Rolling Greens Bowling Alley and for the General Electric Company as a machinist retiring in 2011 after 43 years of service. David worked part time for his good friend Gary Gillespie of Colonial Acres Nursery. David loved all sports. He played men’s softball, golf and was an avid bowler and a great skiier. He enjoyed time at the beach and could be found on many days at the side of his own pool. Besides his parents, David is predeceased by his wife, Barbara Bradshaw Butterfield, whom he married on October 21st, 1973. He leaves behind his children, Sharon Clifford (Sean) and Jason Butterfield (Joanna), siblings, Rick Butterfield (Patty), Carol Butterfield, Bill Butterfield (Sharon) and Nancy Kinkead (Rob), as well as his grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica and Sean, Jr. Clifford, Sierra, Jarrett, James and Zachary Butterfield. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 17th from 5-7pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10am at St. Gabriel’s Church on Hamburg St. Interment will be in St. Cyril’s Cemetery.
