Louis C. DeGeorgio Sr, of Rotterdam, died Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the age of 93.

Born in Schenectady, Louis graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1943. After joining the US Army Air Corp in July, 1943, Louis was assigned to the 591st Bomber Squadron as a Gunner on a B-17 aircraft. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre, Alaska and the Aleutian Islands.  He was honorable discharged in February, 1945.                                                                                                                                                                                             Louis was employed as a Heat Treater and Machinist with the Watervliet Arsenal for 38 years retiring in 1977.

He was a life member and past commander of the VFW Post #357, a member of the American Legion for 40 years, the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157, Rotterdam Son’s of Italy, and the Rotterdam Senior Citizens.


Louis was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Rose DeFronze DeGeorgio, brothers; Stephen DiGiorgio, James DeGeorgia, Anthony DeGeorgia and John DiGiorgio and his sisters; Mary Ranze and Ida Massari.


He is survived by his loving companion of 25 years, Angie Vroman, his sons; Louis (Debralee) DeGeorgio Jr. of Malta,  John (Donna) DeGeorgio of Rotterdam,  Paul (the late Andrea) DeGeorgio of Saratoga and Brian (Lori) DeGeorgio of Schenectady, his sister, Dolores Fazio of Schenectady and brother, Ralph (Carm) DiGiorgio of Clifton Park, eight grandchildren;  Erik (Courtney)DeGeorgio, Evan (Adina)DeGeorgio, Adam DeGeorgio,  Ronald DeGeorgio, Liam DeGeorgio, Madison DeGeorgio, Sarah Calder and Jacqueline Calder, four great grandchildren; Isabella, Olivia, Jake and Juliet, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 9 – 10:30 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.

Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 10:30 am.

Burial, with military honors, will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s research Hospital at  A charity Louis always supported.
