Schenectady- Carmela “Lena” Scuderi, 96, passed away peacefully at Kingsway Arms on June 29 2018.
She was born in Cervato, Italy a daughter of the late Pasquale and Immaculata Ventri Tomassi. She came to this country with her husband in 1958 and settled in Greenwich Village. For several years she worked at the rectory at Our Lady of Pompeii Church in the Village and was a lifelong communicant.
She moved to Schenectady in 2010 to live closer to her son, and was a member of St Paul the Apostle Church Schenectady.
Lena’s family fondly remembers her as a devoted wife mother and grandmother. Lena was a very kind and gentle soul who was deeply religious and who took great pride in caring for her church and the priests of Our Lady of Pompeii for over 30 years.
She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Joyce (Wells) Scuderi of Rotterdam NY ; a son in law Stephen Lavin and two granddaughters Christina and Catherine Lavin both of Upper Mont Clair NJ.
Lena was predeceased by her husband (John) in 2008 and her daughter Lisa Lavin ( 2011.)

Family and friends are invited to call at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc 1605 Helderberg Ave Rotterdam on Thursday July 5, 2018 from 4 pm to 7 pm. Funeral services will begin at 8:15 at the funeral home on Friday July 6, 2018 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am at St. Paul’s Church Albany Street Schenectady. Interment will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation or The Muscular Dystrophy Association.
